The Tower
Sudden upheaval, revelation, chaos, awakening.
Upright
The Tower is the sudden collapse of what was built on a false foundation. It comes as a shock — a revelation, a break-up, a loss, a truth that cannot be un-known — and it comes fast. The card is frightening because it is honest: the thing was going to fall anyway. What survives the lightning is real.
Reversed
Reversed, the disaster is delayed, softened or resisted. It can mean a near miss, a crisis you saw coming and prepared for, or a collapse you keep propping up because you are afraid of the fall. The tower still needs to come down; reversed, you get a say in how.
On the card
Lightning strikes a tower built on a rocky peak, knocking the crown from its top and setting it ablaze. Two figures fall headfirst through the dark, and sparks in the shape of Hebrew yods drift down through the smoke.
In love
A sudden break, a revelation, a relationship shaken to its foundation. Truth arriving all at once.
Avoiding a necessary rupture, or the aftershocks of one. Rebuild on honest ground.
At work
A redundancy, a failed launch, a leadership crisis. The structure was weaker than it looked.
A crisis averted or drawn out. Take the change you are being handed.
As advice
Let it fall. Do not rebuild the same tower on the same rock.
You know the crack is there. Deal with it before the lightning does.
Questions people ask about The Tower
Is the Tower a yes or no card?
No. The plan as it stands will not hold. Better to know it now than after you have built on it.
For a yes-or-no question, draw a single card: the one-card spread.
What kind of person is the Tower?
Someone who shakes everything up: the disruptor, a revelation in human form. They may bring chaos, but they bring the truth with it.
How does the Tower feel about you?
Their feelings have been shaken by a sudden realisation. It can be a thunderbolt of attraction, or the moment they see something they cannot un-see.
What does the Tower say about timing?
Suddenly and without warning. The change comes fast; the rebuilding afterwards takes longer.
