I · Major Arcana
The Magician
Manifestation, willpower, skill, resourcefulness.
Upright
The Magician is the moment potential becomes action. Everything you need is already on the table; the card is about knowing that, and picking the tools up. It speaks of skill, focus and the confidence to make something real out of an idea — as above, so below. When it appears, you are the one with the power in the situation, whether or not you feel it yet.
Reversed
Reversed, the power is there but pointed the wrong way: talent going unused, or cleverness used to manipulate rather than make. It can also mark a plan with too many moving parts and no follow-through. Ask what you are actually building, and for whom.
On the card
A figure stands at a table with one hand raised to the sky holding a wand and the other pointing to the earth. On the table lie a cup, a sword, a pentacle and a wand — one tool for each suit. Above the head floats the lemniscate of infinity, and roses and lilies grow around the scene.
In love
You can shape this. Say what you want plainly and watch how quickly things move.
Charm without substance, or someone saying the right things for the wrong reasons. Watch the hands, not the words.
At work
The right skills at the right moment. Pitch the idea, start the build, take the meeting.
Scattered effort, or a colleague working an angle. Simplify, and be straight with people.
As advice
Act. You are more capable of this than you are giving yourself credit for.
Stop rehearsing and stop scheming; do one honest thing well.
Questions people ask about The Magician
Is the Magician a yes or no card?
Yes. You have what it takes, and the outcome is in your hands. Reversed, only if you stop scattering your effort.
For a yes-or-no question, draw a single card: the one-card spread.
What kind of person is the Magician?
Someone skilled and persuasive who makes things happen: the maker, the salesperson, the one who walks into a room and bends it their way. At best brilliant and focused; at worst a performer who says whatever works.
How does the Magician feel about you?
They are interested, and they mean to act on it. The Magician feels attraction as a plan, so expect them to make a move, and check that the move matches the words.
What does the Magician say about timing?
Now. Everything needed is already on the table, and the right moment is the one in which you pick it up. More preparation is the one thing this card warns against.
