Seven of Swords · Minor Arcana
Seven of Swords
Deception, strategy, stealth, getting away.
Upright
The Seven of Swords is the clever way out. It speaks of strategy, stealth, deception and doing something alone that you would rather not be seen doing. It can be cunning that is justified — or theft, evasion and betrayal. The card asks: is this strategy, or are you sneaking?
Reversed
Reversed, the thief comes back. It marks confession, conscience, coming clean, or imposter feelings — the sense that you got away with something and are waiting to be caught. Honesty is lighter than the swords.
On the card
A man tiptoes away from a camp of tents carrying five swords, looking back over his shoulder; two swords are left behind in the ground. A group of soldiers is just visible in the distance.
In love
Secrets, evasion, someone not being straight. Or a need to be strategic about a delicate situation.
A confession, or the end of a deception. Truth restores what stealth eroded.
At work
A clever workaround, or someone taking credit that is not theirs. Watch your back, and check your own.
Coming clean, or feeling like a fraud. Own what is yours.
As advice
Be strategic — but be able to look yourself in the eye afterwards.
Put the swords back. Whatever you took is not worth what it costs to carry.
