Three of Swords · Minor Arcana
Three of Swords
Heartbreak, grief, painful truth, separation.
Upright
The Three of Swords is heartbreak. It speaks of grief, separation, painful truth and the kind of hurt that cannot be reasoned away. The card does not soften it. But the swords are precise: this is a clean wound, and the rain is doing its work. Pain that is felt honestly passes; pain that is denied stays.
Reversed
Reversed, the swords are being drawn out. It marks recovery, forgiveness, releasing old pain — or, sometimes, refusing to feel it and pretending the heart is fine. Be honest about which. Healing needs the wound looked at.
