Upright

The Nine of Wands is the last stand before the finish. It speaks of resilience, persistence and boundaries held after a long struggle: you are tired, you have been hurt, and you are still here. The card is encouragement — you are closer than you feel — and a caution not to let old wounds make you see enemies where there are none.

Reversed

Reversed, the exhaustion has won. It marks burnout, paranoia, giving in just before the end, or defences so high nothing can get through. Rest is not surrender. Put the wand down for a night.

On the card

A bandaged man leans on a wand, eyes wary, with eight more wands planted in a fence behind him. He is tired and hurt, but standing, and watching for the next thing.

In love

Guarded after past hurt, but still willing. A relationship tested and holding.

Walls too high to be reached, or too tired to keep trying. Let someone help.

At work

One more push. Protect what you have built and finish the fight.

Burnout, or fighting battles that ended long ago. Recover before you resume.

As advice

Stay standing. It is nearly over, and you have what it takes.

Lower the guard a little. Not everyone is a threat.
