Upright

The Seven of Wands is holding your ground. It speaks of defence, perseverance and standing by something when others challenge it — a position, a project, a belief. You have the high ground, but you must keep it. The card is a test of conviction: if the thing is worth defending, defend it.

Reversed

Reversed, the defence is failing or has become exhausting. It marks feeling overwhelmed, giving up, or being defensive about something that does not actually need defending. Ask what you are protecting and whether the hill is the right one.

On the card

A man stands on high ground holding a wand crosswise, fending off six wands raised from below. His feet are on uneven ground and his boots do not match, but he is holding.

In love

Standing up for the relationship, or for yourself within it. Boundaries under pressure.

Feeling attacked, defensive, or worn down. Put the stick down and talk.

At work

Defending your position, your budget, your idea. Persist; you are in the stronger place.

Overwhelmed by criticism or competition. Rally support, or reconsider the fight.

As advice

Hold. Conviction is the whole strategy here.

You do not have to defend everything. Yield on the small things to keep the big one.
