7-card spread

Chakra

Seven cards laid up the body, one for each energy centre from root to crown. It is a spread for checking in with yourself rather than asking about events: which centres are open and flowing, which are blocked, and what each one is asking for.

The positions

  1. 1RootRoot: safety, home, money, the body. Your footing.
  2. 2SacralSacral: pleasure, creativity, desire, and what you let yourself feel.
  3. 3Solar plexusSolar plexus: will, confidence, and how you take up space.
  4. 4HeartHeart: love given and received, grief, and what you are holding.
  5. 5ThroatThroat: your voice. What is being said, and what is not.
  6. 6Third eyeThird eye: intuition, perception, and what you are choosing not to see.
  7. 7CrownCrown: meaning, faith, and your connection to something larger.

Reading it well

Lay it bottom up

Begin at the root and work upward, so the reading builds the way the body does: footing first.

Look for the block

A reversed card, or a Swords card, is often the centre that is stuck. The card above it usually shows what the block is costing.

An example reading

“Where am I out of balance?”

  1. 1 · RootFour of Pentacles
  2. 2 · SacralPage of Cups
  3. 3 · Solar plexusThe Chariot
  4. 4 · HeartThree of Swords
  5. 5 · ThroatPage of Swordsreversed
  6. 6 · Third eyeThe Moon
  7. 7 · CrownThe Hermit

The Four of Pentacles at the root is a tight grip on money or safety. The Page of Cups at the sacral centre is a playful, creative feeling waiting to be let in, and the Chariot at the solar plexus shows plenty of will. The Three of Swords at the heart is the block: an old hurt. At the throat, the Page of Swords reversed is something said too quickly, or not said at all. The Moon at the third eye and the Hermit at the crown ask for quiet, and for honest time alone with it.
