Upright

The Four of Pentacles is holding on tight. It speaks of security, control, saving and the stability that comes from keeping what you have — and the cost of never letting any of it go. The man is safe and alone. The card can be sensible caution or plain fear; look at what the grip is costing.

Reversed

Reversed, the grip loosens. It marks generosity, letting go, releasing control — or financial insecurity and reckless spending. Ask whether you are opening the hand or losing what was in it.

On the card

A crowned man sits on a stone bench clutching a pentacle to his chest, one under each foot and one balanced on his crown. A city lies behind him; he is not looking at it.

In love

Possessiveness, or a relationship guarded so carefully it cannot breathe. Security is not the same as closeness.

Opening up, or a fear of losing someone that has become the whole relationship.

At work

Saving, consolidating, protecting your position. Prudent, but do not hoard opportunities.

Loosening the purse, or losing control of the money. Find the middle.

As advice

Keep what matters. Then ask what you could put down.

Open the hand a little. What you are gripping is not the thing you are afraid of losing.
