Upright

The Six of Pentacles is generosity in balance. It speaks of charity, giving and receiving, fairness and the flow of resources from those who have to those who need. The scales matter: giving that keeps score is not the same as generosity. When it appears, either give freely or accept gracefully — and notice which one you are.

Reversed

Reversed, the scales tip. It marks debt, strings attached, one-sided giving, power hidden inside kindness, or generosity that leaves you empty. Ask what is really being exchanged.

On the card

A wealthy merchant holds a set of scales in one hand and drops coins into the hand of a kneeling beggar with the other, while a second beggar waits. Six pentacles float above.

In love

A generous, balanced relationship — or one where you keep count. Give without a ledger.

One always giving, one always taking; or help that comes with obligations.

At work

A bonus, a mentor's help, a chance to be generous with what you know. Share.

Unfair pay, strings-attached favours, or being taken advantage of. Rebalance.

As advice

Give what you can and let it go. Receive without shame.

Look at the strings. Kindness that controls is not kindness.
