King of Pentacles · Minor Arcana
King of Pentacles
Wealth, business, leadership, abundance.
Upright
The King of Pentacles is wealth that has been earned and kept. He speaks of business, leadership, abundance and the steady, practical mastery of the material world. He is generous because he can afford to be, and disciplined because that is how he got here. When he appears, think long-term, act reliably, and enjoy the fruits.
Reversed
Reversed, the wealth becomes the point. It marks greed, materialism, stubbornness, corruption, or a security so tightly held that it stops being generous. The armoured foot shows: the king is not as soft as the grapes suggest.
On the card
A king sits on a throne carved with bulls, robed in grapes and vines, a pentacle under one hand and a sceptre in the other. His castle rises behind him; one armoured foot shows beneath the robe.
In love
A provider, a stable and generous partner, a secure and comfortable love.
Possessive, materialistic, or valuing status over the person. Money is not the same as care.
At work
Financial mastery, a successful business, a leader who delivers. Build an empire steadily.
Greed, rigidity, or a boss who cannot see past the numbers. Remember what the wealth is for.
As advice
Be steady, generous and practical. That is what mastery looks like.
Ask what the money is for. If the answer is more money, look again.
