Seven of Cups · Minor Arcana
Seven of Cups
Choices, illusion, wishful thinking, fantasy.
Upright
The Seven of Cups is too many choices, all of them shining. It speaks of illusion, fantasy, wishful thinking and the paralysis of wanting everything. Some of the cups hold treasure; some hold snakes; from here you cannot tell. The card asks you to stop dreaming long enough to choose — and to choose with your eyes open.
Reversed
Reversed, the cloud clears. It marks clarity, focus, decisive action and the disillusion that comes from finally seeing what was in the cups. It can be a rude awakening, or a relief. Either way, you can now choose.
On the card
A silhouetted figure stares at seven cups floating in a cloud, each holding something: a face, a veiled figure, a snake, a castle, jewels, a wreath, a dragon. It is not clear which is real.
In love
Fantasy about someone, or too many options and no commitment. Reality is where love lives.
Seeing a person clearly at last — for better or worse. Decide from there.
At work
Big ideas and scattered attention. Which one is real? Pick it.
Focus returning; a plan chosen from the pile. Execute.
As advice
Choose one cup. Dreaming about all of them is a way of having none.
The illusion is gone; do not mourn it. Act on what you now know.
