Upright

The Queen of Cups is the depth of feeling, held with calm. She speaks of compassion, intuition, emotional security and the ability to sit with other people's feelings without drowning in them. She is the friend who understands before you explain. When she appears, trust your emotional intelligence — and let yourself be cared for.

Reversed

Reversed, the depth becomes a flood. It marks insecurity, co-dependence, giving too much, or feelings that overwhelm judgement. The cup is closed for a reason: some things are for you first. Refill before you pour.

On the card

A queen sits on a throne at the water's edge holding an ornate, closed cup, gazing into it. The throne is carved with sea nymphs; the water laps at her feet.

In love

A deeply caring, intuitive partner. A relationship where feelings are safe.

Losing yourself in someone else, or drowning in emotion. Come back to shore.

At work

Emotional intelligence as a strength; counselling, care, creative work with heart.

Taking things too personally, or caring for everyone but yourself.

As advice

Trust what you feel. It knows before you do.

Care for yourself with the tenderness you give away.
