King of Cups · Minor Arcana
King of Cups
Emotional balance, diplomacy, wisdom, control.
Upright
The King of Cups is calm on a rough sea. He speaks of emotional balance, diplomacy, wisdom and mature control — feeling everything and being steered by none of it. He is the counsellor, the steady partner, the leader who listens. When he appears, meet the situation with compassion and a level head.
Reversed
Reversed, the sea gets in. It marks moodiness, manipulation, emotional volatility, or a coldness that hides a lack of control. The king may be using feeling as a weapon, or drowning in it. Come back to the throne.
